How does Hopsy work?
For the elegant answer visit How It Works. For the simple answer: customers order beer from local breweries on our site. The beer is filled and sealed at the brewery. We deliver that beer where you told us to, making your tastebuds happy.
What size is a growler?
We use 32 fl. oz. growlers. They are actually called 'growlettes', cute, and are equal to 2 full American pints.

What if I get a beer I don't like?
We want you to be thrilled with the beer. We work very very hard to protect your beer to keep the quality at the highest brewer-accepted standards. But sometimes we all get a beer we really don't like - either it's not to our taste preference or actually maybe it's gone bad. If that happens to you, contact us and we'll make it right.
Why is Hopsy any better than my local grocery store?
Hopsy supports local craft breweries, many of which you will not find in your local convenience or grocery store. That's because the traditional distribution channels are tough on small businesses. Hopsy uses technology and the internet to make it easy for you to discover beers and breweries you may not have heard of or can't easily visit. Hopsy gives local breweries access to new customers they don't get to normally connect with. It's a win win.
Why shouldn't I just buy directly from the brewery?
Hopsy does not replace the awesome experience at the brewery. We love going to breweries too and enjoying great beer and great atmosphere. But rarely are any of us able to visit the over 100 local breweries in the Bay area regularly. So for the times you can't get to the brewery, but you still want their amazing beer, Hopsy allows those breweries to still get it to you.
How do I order?
Step 1. Browse our beer menu. Half of our beers rotate every two weeks.
Step 2. Add items to your cart and checkout when you're done. You get free delivery if you purchase 4 growlettes or more.
Step 3. You can select beers from different breweries, all in the same order and delivery.
Step 4. Payment is handled by a secured third-party. We accept all major credit cards.
Step 5. For delivery, choose a delivery window. Your driver will send you a SMS (text) a few minutes before they arrive.
How far in advance do I need to place my order?
If you are withing our local delivery area (San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley), place your order until Wednesday at 11 PM (PST) for delivery on Thursday, Thursday at 11 PM (PST) for delivery on Friday, as well as Friday at 11 PM (PST) for delivery on Saturday.
If you are in California but outside our local delivery area, place you order until Monday at 11 PM (PST) for delivery within 3-7 business days.
How do I add to or edit my order?
You can modify your order contents as well as the delivery time and location anytime before the order window closes at 11pm the night before your planned delivery. Just call (510) 922-0353 during business hours or send us an email at email@example.com and we’ll help you out.
How do I make changes to an order after the order window closes?
That’s tough because past the cutoff time, we start processing your order. We cannot, at this time, accommodate any changes to the contents of your order at that point as breweries start filling your growlettes. If you need to change your delivery information, please call (510) 922-0353 during business hours or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll do our best to help you out.
Can I order from my phone or tablet?
Absolutely. You can order from our mobile site or download the Hopsy iOS or Android app.
How do I cancel my order?
You can cancel an order until 11pm the night before your scheduled order. To cancel an order, please call (510) 922-0353 during business hours or send us an email at email@example.com and we’ll help you out.
Unfortunately, we aren't able to refund last minute cancellations. We give our brewers this courtesy so that they can prepare your growlettes. This means that it always comes to you as fresh as possible!
Is my payment processed securely?
We take security seriously. We are backed by a top-tier payment processing company called Stripe (used by leading companies such as Twitter and Kickstarter.) Your credit card information is never stored on any of our servers. Our website is entirely SSL-protected. All transactions are processed using secure encryption.
What credit cards do you take?
We accept all major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB and Diners Club.
Do you take cash?
We accept cash at our store in Albany. All online orders are processed via credit card.
How do I create an account?
Click on Sign Up in the upper right corner of the page. You can also sign up with your Facebook account to make it even easier.
How many bottles can I order?
You can order as many bottles as you like while inventory lasts. If you order more than 10 bottles, like for a party or your office, we're going to call you after you order to confirm it. We need to make sure you're for real and not a meany. Plus, you're awesome! and we want to say thank you.
If you want to place a bulk order, it's best to call us at (510) 922-0353 and place that order earlier to make sure we've got the beer for you.
Do you have a minimum order quantity?
No we don't.
Where do you deliver to?
We can deliver throughout California. We’re growing and will expand our service to additional States very soon. Don’t you worry, we’ll notify you when we come to your area with a jumping-for-joy email, so still sign up and stay tuned.
We cannot ship to PO Boxes, APO, AFT, DPO or FPO addresses.
How much does delivery cost?
For deliveries in our local delivery area to the following zip codes, delivery is free when you order 4 or more growlettes or 2 or more HomeTap Bottles. Less than 4 growlettes is $4.99. In the rest of California, we charge a flat $9.99 shipping fee.
Why do I have to sign for it?
By law someone 21 years of age or older needs to receive it. We’ll ask to show I.D. and to sign for it. It must be a government issued I.D. or state issued drivers license – no college I.D.’s. If you appear to be intoxicated when we show up, we have the right to refuse delivery, you must be sober. Please drink responsibly.
What if I miss the delivery?
We understand that life happens, so if you miss a delivery, we'll do our best to get you your beers. Give us a call so we can figure out the best time for re-delivery.
If you are not available for the 2nd re-delivery attempt, we will cancel your order and will not issue a refund. That’d be a total bummer for you and us, we WANT to get you your beer, please be home.
Should I tip the delivery driver?
It's so kind of you to ask, but our drivers don't accept tips. We are committed to creating good jobs that don’t depend on tips.
When will my beer be delivered?
Most deliveries will take 3-7 business days.
If you are being delivered to one of the zip codes eligible for the home delivery service, you can be delivered next day on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, and you can pick the time window that works for you. We'll send you an email the day before to remind you. The driver will text you when he is nearby to remind you again.
Who will deliver my beer?
We work with several reliable carriers that specialize in getting the beer to you as quickly as possible so you'll receive a timely delivery from a dependable carrier.
Do you take the empties back?
If you are in our local delivery area, yes we do. Give your empties back to your driver, and we'll credit your account with $1 for each empty growlette returned. You can also drop your empties off at our Albany store.
If you are within our shipping area, we do not yet have a good system to get your empties back. We are working hard to find a solution and give you credit for every empty growler returned.
Can you deliver to a business?
Yep, as long as the office normally and easily receives deliveries, is in our delivery area and someone 21 years of age or older can sign for it. It's cold beer, so put it in your office fridge if you're planning on taking it home after work is done. However, if you're behind gates, locked doors, inside a SCIF or something top secret, which is going to make it really hard to deliver to you, please pick another location.
Can you deliver to a PO BOX?
Sorry no. Someone 21 years of age or older has to sign for it, so we can't leave it with a PO BOX.
Can I have the beer shipped to somebody else as a gift?
Yes, but make sure the person is 21 and that they'll sign to receive it. During checkout, we'll verify that we can legally ship the wine to the address you're sending it to. If there are any problems, we'll let you know before we charge you.

How do I cancel my monthly subscription?

Anything special to drinking craft beer?
Each craft beer style has been created with a unique set of characteristics, that's what makes the craft beer world so damn fun and interesting. They ARE different than the typical light beers you get in 30 packs. As such, to experience them in their full brilliance, different styles should be served at different temperatures, in glasses specially made for them and combined with different foods. Each product in our menu has details on the best temperature, glassware and food pairing. Enjoy.
How long can I keep a bottle in the refrigerator?
Since our growlettes are filled using counter-pressure, they have an extended lifetime. As long as your growlettes are not opened, you can keep them in the fridge for up to 30 days.
Once you open a growlette, we recommend you drink it within 24 hours.
After you tap a HomeTap Bottle, we recommend you drink it within 2 weeks.
How do I store my beer?
We'll deliver cold fresh beer to you, so you'll want to keep it cold in your fridge until you open it to drink.
Can I buy all those different glasses in the photos of the beers?
In our physical store, we have the IPA glasses for sale. Eventually, we'll have all of those cool glasses for sale, thanks for your patience.
I know a brewery that should sell on Hopsy! How do I connect you?

I'm a homebrewer, can I partner and sell my beer through Hopsy?
Unfortunately no. California laws are such that we can only partner with beer manufacturers who hold an official license through the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
Can I combine two discount coupons?
Sorry no. Our promotions are for first-time orders only and cannot be combined with any other promotions.
What do I do with this coupon code?
If you've got a coupon code from us, they are for new customers only. If you’re a new customer, build an order online and input the code in the field marked Coupon Code at checkout when asked for it and the discount will be applied.
Can I purchase a gift card for someone else?
Yes, go to the Gifts page. The gift card is sent in a digital format via email, with a link to redeem it.
How do I redeem a gift card?
You can apply the gift card code at checkout in the field marked Gift Card Code and the amount of the order will be debited from the gift card. After the funds from the gift card are used up and if there is any remaining balance to pay, we'll ask you for additional payment.
Do gift cards expire?
No, they do not, never Any remaining balance can be used towards your next orders.
