Tidewater 4-1009 (pronounced four-ten- oh-nine) is a slightly-smoked pale ale featuring pale and smoked malts from Virginia's Copper Fox Distillery. These hand-crafted barley malts are sourced from local barley to the distillery and floor-malted in a converted cider mill in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Magnolia built this pale ale around a foundation of Copper Fox’s Virginia Special Pale malt, and added a small amount of their apple/cherry wood-smoked malt. British caramalt, crystal malt and malted wheat round out the grain bill and the hop bill is 50% minstrel and 50% archer, both British hops. The name “Tidewater four ten oh nine” is from a lyric in the Grateful Dead song, “Promised Land”.
A world-wide style now, balanced between malt and hops. Aromas range from fruity and light to floral and pungent and they have a wide range of bitterness.
