Golden Rabbit is more or less a golden ale, brewed with Maris Otter malt along with Wheat, Munich and Caramalt. Magnolia used Minstrel, Hallertau Blanc and Jarrylo hops. Then added Douglas Fir Tips, Madrone Bark, Madrone Berries, and California Bay Laurel Leaves. The beer was brewed for an event called Beers Made By Walking, which organizes brewers around the country to wander in nature in their areas and brew beers inspired by what they find. The organization led nature walks on Mount Sutro for any SF Brewers Guild brewers who were interested so many of the beers used ingredients that can be seen there. Magnolia went in a different direction; drawing inspiration from a farm/ranch in western Sonoma County called Golden Rabbit Ranch. It's a beautiful place in the hills about 5 miles inland near Fort Ross and Jenner. The brewers at Magnolia have gone up to visit several times this year and have done a lot of walking on the 40 acres of land there. The items we used were all harvested from the ranch and they brought down just for this beer.
A world-wide style now, balanced between malt and hops. Aromas range from fruity and light to floral and pungent and they have a wide range of bitterness.
